Everything You Need to Know About RF Microneedling

You want the world to see you as you are: vibrant and healthy. When you look in the mirror, do you see vibrant and healthy? If you’re like many people, you see dullness, fine lines, sun damage, and other signs of aging.

The outstanding staff at AdvancedMD Aesthetics in Marietta, Georgia, led by the incomparable Dr. Maki Rheaume, offers numerous options to help you see your best self reflected in the mirror. One option that many patients are unaware of is radiofrequency (RF) microneedling. RF microneedling harnesses your body’s natural healing powers to improve the look of your skin.

How RF microneedling works

Microneedling is the process of creating microscopic wounds on your skin, which are sometimes referred to as channels, with extremely fine needles. Two things happen during microneedling: Your body responds and begins healing the tiny wounds, creating capillaries, elastin, and collagen — all of which are crucial for smooth, flawless skin. The channels also create a pathway for serums and moisturizers to reach deep into the layers of your skin, helping them to be more effective.

RF microneedling contains another element. The needles deliver radiofrequency waves, or gentle energy, to all of the structures within the layers of your skin. The energy enhances the effect of the microneedling by causing additional damage with heat, which in turn increases the healing effect that is produced by the process.

Does it hurt?

We use a topical anesthetic to help you remain comfortable. In some cases, Dr. Rheaume suggests using a local anesthetic. In either case, the numbing effect prevents you from feeling pain during the procedure.

You may have some slight discomfort immediately afterward. You may feel as if you have a sunburn, or you may have light bruising or swelling. Use of an ice pack is recommended.

The good news is that you heal very quickly following the procedure. You need to wear sunscreen for several weeks, but you can return to your normal activities the next day.

What RF microneedling helps

You may be wondering why you’d consider RF microneedling. This powerful procedure can correct numerous skin issues. For example, fine lines and wrinkles fade, and even stretch marks can be lessened.

If you feel you have large pores, or you have scarring from acne or injury, RF microneedling can help. Sun damage and hyperpigmentation can be lessened as well.

As you age, your skin may begin to sag; RF microneedling stimulates collagen growth, which can help your skin tighten again.

Although we frequently discuss RF microneedling in reference to your face, it can be performed in other areas as well. Sagging skin on your neck can be corrected, and even cellulite responds to RF microneedling.

Add on PRP

To increase the effect of RF microneedling even more, you can opt to add on platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy. PRP involves harvesting growth factors and specialized cells from your blood and injecting them into the area being treated to enhance the effect even more.

If you’re ready to look younger and feel great about the reflection in the mirror, call or message to schedule a consultation with Dr. Rheume and her staff today. We’re happy to discuss your concerns and your goals and make treatment suggestions tailored to your situation.
