Dermal Fillers Q&A

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are products that help you temporarily regain some of the volume your face has lost with time. The natural aging process causes a decline in subdermal fat, which in turn results in a reduction in youthful plumpness of your facial features. Dermal fillers can restore some of that plumpness for 6-18 months.

The hyaluronic acid in these fillers naturally occurs in your body, with heavy concentrations in the eyes, joints, and skin. It dissolves safely and naturally, but you can get follow-up injections to maintain your results.

What can dermal fillers do?

The dermal fillers at AdvancedMD Aesthetics of Atlanta can increase volume in various areas, all without cosmetic surgery. They can:

  • Contour your cheeks
  • Minimize parentheses lines by the nose and mouth
  • Soften vertical lip lines
  • Add subtle volume to your lips

As a skilled injector, Dr. Rheaume can complete your treatment with dermal fillers in just 15-60 minutes, depending on what you’re treating. She carefully plans the procedure and maps out the injection points before building up to natural-looking results using a light hand.

There are several dermal filler products in the market and each product specializes in treating a particular area or type of feature, and Dr. Rheaume can tell you which of them will work best toward your treatment goals.

Are dermal fillers the same as neuromodulators?

Dermal fillers are not the same as another popular cosmetic injectable containing a neurotoxin, called a neuromodulator. At AdvancedMD Aesthetics of Atlanta, Dr. Rheaume offers Xeomin brand neuromodulator injections to treat fine facial lines that dermal fillers cannot target.

Fine lines, such as crow’s feet or frown lines, develop because of repeated facial expressions and muscle movements.

Xeomin works by impacting the communication between the nerves in those muscles and the muscles themselves.

The drug temporarily stops the muscles from flexing, even when you’re not thinking about it, which smooths the fine lines. It lasts for about 3-6 months, and you can get maintenance injections when the results diminish.

If you’re interested in adding cosmetic injectables like dermal fillers and neuromodulators to your aesthetic care plan, call AdvancedMD Aesthetics of Atlanta for a consultation or request an appointment online today.

Versa by Revanesse

We use VERSA™, manufactured by the company Revanesse®, is a hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal filler developed to smooth fine lines and wrinkles and enhance facial volume.

Used for over four years in Canada (where it is also manufactured), VERSA received its FDA approval for use in the United States in 2017. Since its initial release, over one million syringes of VERSA have been used worldwide with no reports of adverse events reported.

Versa is its nearly non-existent post-injection swelling.  It has been shown to produce 24% less swelling than competing fillers. And Versa contains NO ANIMAL PRODUCT.

On a molecular level, VERSA has a tiny, spherical particle structure which gives it a very smooth quality which yield very natural looking results.

It's similar to other popular hyaluronic acid fillers, like Juvederm and Resylane, but Belotero is very lightweight and easy to layer, so it can be injected into very fine lines without creating lumps or bumps.

Belotero is a softer filler that’s great for superficial fine lines, especially lines around the lips (smoker’s lines) and chin wrinkling.
